Earlier, I mentioned The Weavers – the greatest folk singing group of them all, if you ask me. In looking for the video of “Wimoweh”, I came across a video which includes a number of other songs they were singing in 1951, at the height of their popularity. I watched/listened, and was absolutely thrilled by it. Maybe you will be too. Click here and find out.
Rachel Maddow is mad. I don\’t blame her either. It seems Ms. Maddow, whom MSNBC touts as a “news anchor” – despite the fact that she hosts an unwaveringly far-left opinion show (in the rarefied world of MSNBC that might be a prerequisite for the description), feels parent company NBC-Universal has given her (and, presumably, the rest of the MSNBC crew) short...
Anita Darian, an opera singer (and more, as you will find out in a moment) has passed away. She died on February 1, of complications arising from intestinal surgery. I have to admit, I never heard of Ms. Darian until I read her obituary in today\’s belated New York Times obituary (that\’s not a knock on the Times; her death may not have been made public until...
Here are some fast reviews for several of the movies my wife and I have seen in recent weeks. The Theory Of Everything: Terrific movie, terrific story, terrific acting all around. Eddie Redmayne should win the Oscar – but may be jobbed out of it (see next review). American Sniper: Excellent, holds your attention throughout regardless of your political...
Today\’s quote comes to us from President Obama. It is incredible, but he really said it, during an interview with Ezra Klein\’s reliably left wing, thus reliably pro-Obama, vox.com: “Itis entirely legtitimate for the American people to be deeplyconcerned when you\’ve got a bunch of violent vicious zealots whobehead people or randomly shoot a bunch of folks in a...
Here, in its entirety, is Benjamin Netanyahu\’s just-issued statement regarding current US-Israel relations and his scheduled address to a joint session of congress: First,on behalf of the people of Israel, I wish to send condolences toPresident Obama, the American people and the family of Kayla Mueller. We stand with you. Israel\’ssurvival is not a partisan issue, not in Israel nor...
I don\’t know if it is true yet, but drudgereport.com is reporting that Savannah Guthrie has emerged as a short-list possibility to replace Brian Williams as NBC\’s Nightly News anchor. Drudge says the story is “developing”. As it does – if it does – I\’ll let you know. Yeah, I realize this is pretty thin information to blog about. But...
Excerpted from Justin Sink\’s and Mike Lillis\’s article at thehill.com: Morethan a dozen congressional Democrats say they plan to skip IsraeliPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\’s speech to a joint session ofCongress amid conflicting signals over whether he will pull out fromthe March 3 address. Netanyahustruck a defiant tone during a campaign event in Israel on Monday,saying...
Few things rally the hard left more than its hatred “winners”. The working premise is that the losers are oppressed by someone and the winners must, therefore be oppressing them. And no country (other than possibly the USA – even there I\’m not sure) stirs hatred than Israel: an oasis of freedom, democracy and achievement in an area populated by...
Apropos of nothing political…. This morning, our entire driveway – not spots here and there, not most, but the entire driveway right to the street – has about a 1/4 inch glaze of ice on it. Just like a glazed donut. If you walk on it like a penguin, you\’re pretty much ok. Try walking with normal strides, and expect to be flat on your back. Driving? Idle...
Watch this video – which is simultaneously very funny and absolutely appalling – in which Mark Dice asks people to sign a petition supporting illiteracy – that\’s right, illiteracy. And as you do, please keep in mind that every person who signs the petition can cancel your vote: Still wondering how someone like Barack Obama got elected? Or what...
This is so repulsive I\’m sorry I read it after dinner. CNN is running a story on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal right now. Its headline is “Bobby Jindal: \’You mean I\’m not white?\'” What does that convey to you? That Jindal, who is of Indian ancestry and relatively dark-skinned, is trying to pass as White? That he is ashamed of his skin color? Well...
Just a quick opinion on Brian Williams\’ (in my mind) inevitable replacement as anchor of NBC Nightly News. NBC has a tremendous asset in Lester Holt. He is poised, personable, and – based on the wide range of assignments he has undertaken – versatile and adaptabhle. Mr. Holt been called on to fill in for Williams until the scandal of his apparent serial...
I\’ll make this short and sweet. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled, this morning, that Alabama should not stop same-sex marriages from taking place. Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore – a devout Christian who believes homosexuality is a sin and, presumably, that people who engage in it will wind up in hell – has decided to help God along in this endeavor by directing that all...
This is an easy part to, uh, impart. I can do it by posting the first paragraph of an article by politico.com\’s Mike Allen: WithAmerica\’s #1 newscast at stake, NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke helda meeting with NBC News executives at his house yesterday to discussthe next steps in the Brian Williams crisis. Williams still hopes tosurvive, and is considering the timing and venue...
