I\’ll make this short and sweet.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled, this morning, that Alabama should not stop same-sex marriages from taking place.
Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore – a devout Christian who believes homosexuality is a sin and, presumably, that people who engage in it will wind up in hell – has decided to help God along in this endeavor by directing that all judges refuse to grant marriage licences to same-sex couples.
Some judges are refusing to do so.
All judges should refuse to do so. And Moore should be removed from his position immediately.
He may believe in God, but that doesn\’t mean he gets to play God. His beliefs are not binding on all Alabamans.
Put another way, a higher legal authority than Roy Moore has ruled. If he wants to take it up with a higher spiritual authority, the place to do that is on a Church pew, not a judge\’s bench.
