HERMAN WOUK, R.I.P.

With great sadness, I note that Herman Wouk among other things The Caine Mutiny, Marjorie Morningstar, and The Winds of War, has died this morning, just 10 days shy of his 104th birthday. We have lost one of the truly great ones. A giant of literature. May he rest in peace.

ABOUT THOSE “25 OLD WHITE MEN” IN ALABAMA

In the past several days I’ve heard enough times about the “25 old White men” who passed Alabama’s new abortion law to appreciate John Hinderaker’s response to it in his latest commentary (bold print is mine): The “25 old white men” theme is ubiquitous. The anti-abortion bill passed Alabama’s Senate 25-6. All 25 who voted in favor of the measure were white...

THE NEW DEBBIE: IS BERNIE SANDERS SCREWED AGAIN?

Is Chris the new Debbie?  Is the Democratic National Committee (DNC) about to screw Bernie Sanders again? As you may remember, in 2016, Hillary Clinton partisan Debbie Wasserman Schultz ran the DNC, and fixed things so Sanders, even with his 23 primary wins, never had a chance to win the party’s presidential nomination (how’d that work out, Debbie?) And now we have this, excerpted...

RECONSIDERING MAXINE WATERS

In the previous blog I referred to Maxine Waters as an accomplishmentless big-mouthed useless loser. Was I being fair? In answer please read this: -H.R. 5569 (111th): National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act of 2010 Legislation to extend the National Flood Insurance Program until September 30, 2010. Enacted July 2, 2010 -H.R. 4573 (111th): Haiti Debt Relief and Earthquake Recovery Act of...

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from an ongoing source of material, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA). So what is Ms. Waters screaming racism about this time (other than the impeachment that is not going to happen, what else does she scream about)?  This time it is President Trump’s proposed immigration policy. And here is what Waters has to say about it: “There should be comprehensive...

WHAT IF IT WERE A WHITE NATIONALIST?

Suppose a White nationalist, a legal resident of the United States, was accused of killing almost a dozen elderly women by suffocating them. Do you think network news would report this? Please keep your answer in mind, as you read the following excerpt from Bill D’Agostino’s article at newsbusters.org: The Dallas Morning News reported on Wednesday that Billy Chemirmir of Kenya “was...

THE PARAGRAPHS OF THE DAY

Today’s paragraphs come to us from Adam Kredo’s latest article at freebeacon.com, and concern a topic I find myself covering more and more frequently:  overt anti-Semitism on college campuses. Here is how Mr. Kredo starts his article – but please use the link I’ve provided to read the rest, because there’s plenty more to digest and think about: Outrage is mounting...

THE DE BLASIO ETHICAL MORASS

William De Blasio is the Mayor of New York City and – at least for the moment – the latest Democrat candidate for president. Since Mr. De Blasio is a Democrat, and New York – after a very productive 20 year hiatus under mayors Giuliani and Bloomberg – has reverted back to voting for anyone with a “D” after his/her name, he easily won re-election to a second...

GEORGE KELLING’S VISION

George Kelling, the architect of so-called “Broken Windows” policing, has passed away on Wednesday. Mr. Kelling, like most people whose idea of helping poor minority neighborhoods is to effectively police them, spent much of his lifetime being condemned by the POPPO* left as a racist. I don’t know what Mr. Kelling’s true feelings about race were.  But I do know that there...

QUEENSBONICS

As I have listened to President Trump over the past several years – especially when he extemporizes to stadiums filled with people who come to hear him, at least in part, because he does extemporize rather than reading some pre-written, focus group-tested mung his staff put together… …it has occurred to me that there should be a name for his speaking style, with its heavy...

TRUMP PROPOSES IMMIGRATION REFORM

Today, Donald Trump proposed a series of long, long overdue immigration reforms. I don’t agree with all of them, but I agree with much of what I heard (I didn’t catch his entire speech). I’ll reserve final judgment until I can read/digest the entire program…and see how media react to it (though I’m pretty sure I already know). More on this later.

CHRAZY CHRIS STRIKES AGAIN

Chris Mattthews – aka Chrazy Chris – has done it again. Would you believe that he actually compared Joe Biden to Rocky Balboa, the movie character played by Sylvester Stallone? And, in the course of doing so, also compared President Trump to Apollo creed, the Black heavyweight champion of the world, who Balboa fought in the movie “Rocky,” (and lost to)? Well believe it...

DAVID MARCUS, BILL DE BLASIO AND THE WEAVERS

I went to your family and asked them for you, They all said take her, oh take her, please do After learning that New York Mayor Bill De Blasio is announcing a presidential run – which, if successful, would of course end his term as Mayor – I read this article by David Marcus, writing for thefederalist.com describing his reaction to this news.  It immediately reminded me of the above...

THE HAIRCUT PRESIDENCY?

Robert Frances “Beto” O’Rourke”, the Irish guy who insists we call him by a Latino nickname, is the former congressperson and, most recently, loser in a senate race, who is running for the Democrat presidential nomination. Three months ago, mainstream media couldn’t get enough of him.  Look out Donald Trump, here comes Beto!! Except, then there was Peter Buttigieg...

DE BLASIO: AND THEN THERE WERE 24

Today, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio will become the 24th announced candidate to be 2020’s Democrat presidential nominee. At least I think he’s #24 – I may have lost count. At this point I’m thinking of registering as a Democrat and running too.  Not that I expect to win, but because I just don’t like being the only one left out. OK, who’s next?  Maybe...
