DID EL-SAYED SELF DESTRUCT?

You would have to look long and far to find a slicker wordsmith than abdulrahmin mohamed el-sayed,  the Democrat Senate candidate in Michigan.  This man can slither out of directly answering questions as slickly as any politician I have ever heard – especially when it comes to the issue of Israel and Jews.

But he might have finally done himself in.

Haley Stevens was el-sayed’s opponent in the Democrat primary.  Se lost to him by just 1%.  And, like a good party member, was supporting his candidacy… up until just a few days ago.

But now she has now come out in support of Republican opponent Mike Rogers.

And why did this remarkable turnaround happen?  Because of the el-sayed campaign’s ugly anti-Semitism, as characterized by an overtly Israel-hating ad run on his behalf last week.

Want particulars?  Here they are, from Megan Brand, and  article for NBC News:

Rep. Haley Stevens endorses GOP candidate Mike Rogers in Michigan Senate race
Stevens’ endorsement came after El-Sayed’s campaign asked the Michigan representative to no longer attend campaign events amid a dispute over an outside ad that Stevens said was antisemitic.

Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., endorsed Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers on Sunday, a major shake-up in the final stages of a top battleground race that could determine which party controls the Senate.

“Hey, Michigan, as you may have seen, our Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, Abdul, said that I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said in a video.

“And he’s right, and that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today,” she said. “I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign.

Stevens had said that she expected El-Sayed to condemn an ad from an outside group that she said was antisemitic. El-Sayed responded, accusing Stevens of being “intent on relitigating a primary that ended three months ago.”

In her endorsement video, which was less than two minutes, Stevens referenced El-Sayed’s ties to Hasan Piker, who has appeared with El-Sayed at campaign events.

“I do not stand with Hasan Piker, who gets trafficked on our college campuses,” she said. “A dear friend of mine earlier today was saying that education is the ballot, and she’s absolutely right. And what our students see, what our children see, and who we are as Michiganders is not hate, and is not what we are getting out from our Democratic nominee right now.”

Stevens said she was “still a very proud Democrat.”

Wow.

How much of an impact will this have on Tuesday’s election?  No one can answer that with 100% certainty.

But, as noted above, Haley Stevens is a popular Democrat; almost the party’s senate candidate instead of el-sayed.

It seems self evident that Stevens’ endorsing Republican Mike Rogers, on the grounds that el-sayed is on board with ethnic/religious hatred, has GOT to have impact.  And, other than for Israel/Jew haters who, you can bet, would have voted for el-sayed anyway, the impact is virtually certain to be decisively against him.

Bottom line:  will abdulrahim mohamed el-sayed’s dumping of Haley Stevens, on the grounds that she objected to the ugly Israel-hating ad run on his behalf, be the end of his chance to win the Michigan Senate seat?

I certainly hope so.
