MINI MOVIE REVIEWS

Here are some fast reviews for several of the movies my wife and I have seen in recent weeks.

The Theory Of Everything:  Terrific movie, terrific story, terrific acting all around.  Eddie Redmayne should win the Oscar – but may be jobbed out of it (see next review).

American Sniper:  Excellent, holds your attention throughout regardless of your political views.  Bradley Cooper is one of the best young actors around.

The Imitation Game:  Just as terrific on all counts.  Benedict Cumberbatch was wonderful – and my congratulations to him for sticking with that ridiculously cumbersome name (even though his actor father changed it to Carlton). Also, who knew Keira Knightley was that good an actress?

Birdman – An annoying grating movie – but the kind that entertainment people love, because it\’s a look at things from their perspective.  Loaded with fantasy crap no one can figure out the reason for.  Acting-wise, Michael Keaton and Ed Norton were excellent.  Keaton may well steal the Oscar from Redmayne because it\’s probably his last chance to get one and Redmayne is a young guy.  Nothing at all against Keaton, but I hope it doesn\’t turn out that way.

Unbroken – Entertaining, but way too long.  Plus, it left out the significant “rest of story” regarding Zamperini\’s post-war transformation from being a drunken loser to a man of faith.

The Judge:  Basically, August: Osage County with different plumbing  But Robert Duval and Robert Downey Jr. are both great.

Soon to see:  Selma, Wild, and Gone Girl.

Any questions?
