Today’s quote comes to us from Hillary Clinton.
This is her answer to Hugh Hewitt who, during his radio show today, asked if any potential 2020 Democrat presidential candidates had sought out her advice:
” Nobody’s actually been to see me. I see Democrats all the time, and nobody has said “Hey, I’m going to run,” or “I’m thinking about running, give me advice now,” because it is too soon. And there may be some private planning going on by some people. I wouldn’t know who. I wouldn’t hazard a guess. But in terms of actually seeking out advice, people have said hey, I want to come talk to you. But I haven’t had those conversations, in large measure, because I’ve said I’m going to focus next year on 2018, and then you know, I’ll be happy to talk.”
I’m trying to figure out who is more delusional: Hugh Hewitt for asking this as a serious question, or Hillary Clinton for answering it this way.
Am I misremembering, or:
-Isn’t this the same Hillary Clinton who lost the primaries in 2008 to a nondescript, did-nothing, first-term senator from Illinois?
-And isn’t this the same Hillary Clinton who, last year, lost a presidential race to, arguably, the single most unelectable candidate of our lifetimes (I don’t care how old you are, the description would still apply).
Other than a someone who lost a bet, what Democrat would want to seek out advice from someone with that history of presidential, er, “success”?
I award Hillary Clinton Quote Of The Day “honors” for the level of delusionary hubris it would take to think Democrat presidential candidates would seek out her counsel…and an honorable mention to Hugh Hewitt for having the intestinal fortitude (or something) to ask.
