From RNC Chair Reince Priebus – who, to say the least, has a stake in what happened in the meeting between Donald Trump and Paul Ryan:
“The meeting was great. It was a very positive step toward party unity.”
Translation: Ryan, having shown his “independence”fangs for a couple of days, is now liberated to pretend they had an amicable meeting of the minds and Trump won him over….instead of the very real possibility that Trump told Ryan he wants his support, but can easily live without it…and then can easily get rid of him at a future time of his choosing.
We’ll never know for sure. But if I were betting, I’d be betting on door #2.
I bet Trump made the Michael Corleone statement regarding what compromise he was willing to make with Ryan…”You can have my answer now Mr. Speaker. My answer is this…nothing.”
