Want to see another in the ongoing media mission to lie Donald Trump out of a second term as President?
Here’s one for the books.
Speaking at a rally in Dayton Ohio, Trump said this about China’s threat to build cars in Mexico and ship them across our southern border for sale in the United States:
“If you’re listening, President Xi — and you and I are friends — but he understands the way I deal. Those big monster car manufacturing plants that you’re building in Mexico right now … you’re going to not hire Americans and you’re going to sell the cars to us, no. We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those cars if I get elected”.
“Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That will be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars. They’re building massive factories.”
As anyone with an IQ above single digits can plainly see, Trump’s “bloodbath” reference was China’s potential impact on the U.S. auto industry – and then for the country.
But if you are intent on attacking Trump for anything and everything, even when the attack has no connection to what he actually said, all bets are off.
For example:
-How about the New York Times, which has a headline stating that Trump “Predicts a ‘Blood Bath’ if He Loses”, with a sub-head that states “In a caustic and discursive speech in Ohio, former President Donald J. Trump once again doubled down on a doomsday vision of the United States.”
-Or the Los Angeles Times, with a headline that says “‘If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath’ and starts with “Former President Trump warned of a “bloodbath” if he loses in November”.
-Or NBC News, with a headline that says “Trump says there will be a ‘bloodbath’ if he loses the election”, and starts with “Former President Donald Trump vowed on Saturday that there would be a “bloodbath” if he’s not re-elected in November.” (this start has since been revised to be more accurate)
-Or CBS News, with a headline that says “In Ohio campaign rally, Trump says there will be a “bloodbath” if he loses November election” and starts with “Former President Donald Trump claimed that he — not President Biden — will protect Social Security and warned of a “bloodbath” if he loses in November as he campaigned for Senate candidate Bernie Moreno in Ohio.
-Or ABC News, with a headline that says “Trump, while addressing auto industry, says there will be ‘bloodbath’ if he loses 2024 election, ramps up anti-migrant rhetoric” and starts with “What was scheduled to be a guest appearance by former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally for Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno quickly turned into Trump saying there would be a “bloodbath” for the country if he doesn’t win the 2024 general election — while also (i.e. as a separate issue -KB) railing against the electric vehicle industry manufacturing automobiles outside the U.S. and using disparaging language to describe immigrants who are in the country illegally.
And so on and so on and so on.
Yes, further down the articles there is mention that the reference was specifically about the auto industry. But the headlines and beginning of the articles in these, and other, mainstream media venues was clearly constructed to deceive readers into thinking it was not a concern about the auto industry but a general comment about the country, as a whole, degenerating into “bloodbath” status.
These people wouldn’t know journalistic integrity if they saw it; they certainly won’t see it in themselves.
And the irony? By doing this they are taking Donald Trump – as unlikable a blowhard egomaniac as you will ever find – and turning him into a sympathetic figure; someone who even Trump haters can find a reason to support out of sheer fairness.
Bottom line: if Trump wins in November they’ll have no one to blame but themselves.
