This morning, I watched the Today Show\’s report on President Obama\’s news conference – which he, narcissistically (therefore, typically), decided to hold on the day after Republicans\’ epic electoral success, so the spotlight would be on him, not them.
After acknowledging that there was “a Republican route in the midterm elections”, Matt Lauer said:
“PresidentObama is now suggesting it could lead to a new wave of compromise inWashington”.
Ok, so we start with the premise that Mr. Obama is statesmanlike enough to use this as an opportunity for bipartisanship. That\’s great.
He then turned it over to NBC senior White House correspondent Chris Jansing, who told Today\’s viewers:
“Well, what looked to be at least a temporary truce betweenPresident Obama and congress lasted less than 24 hours. Republican leaders now say the focus of the new congress will be torepeal the President\’s signature accomplishment, ObamaCare. That, after President Obama struck an optimistic tone in hispost-election press conference” (…then, later) “hedidn\’t promise any changes to his style or his staff, but he said hegot the voters\’ message and pledged to compromise across theaisle…”.
In other words, the President is determined to be a statesman and is all about compromise, but those damn Republicans are nothing but partisan and uncompromising.
Which would be fine,if it were true.
But what Mr. Lauer and Ms. Jansing both ignored was that later in the press conference – and in a clip that they played during this segment – President Obama threatened to unilaterally (i.e. without any congressional input) sign executive orders granting sweeping amnesty to illegal aliens.
Here are Mr. Obama\’s exact words – which, again, I am pulling straight from the video footage shown on this segment, thus were 100% known to both Lauer and Jansing:
“What I\’m not going todo is just wait. Uh, I think it\’s fair to say that I\’ve shown alot of patience and have tried to work on a bipartisan basis as muchas possible, and I\’m going to keep on doing so…”
I don\’t care whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent, legal or illegal, tall or short, an earthling or a martian. If you are not shaking your head in amazement that President Obama has the gall to claim he has patiently worked with Republicans on a bipartisan basis, you don\’t know squat about what has been going on for the past six years.
For the purpose of giving you credit for at least minimal knowledge of how Mr. Obama, and his chief henchman Harry Reid, operate, I will assume you are shaking your head in amazement.
But even if you aren\’t: what did President Obama say? He said no compromise, no conciliation, I Am God and I will ignore congress\’s constitutional authority to do whatever I damn please on immigration.
While you are wondering how this could be passed over by Mr. Lauer and Ms. Jansing, please also consider this quote, which they played video of, from soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:
“Whenthe American people choose divided government, I don\’t think itmeans they don\’t want us to do anything. I think it means they wantus to look for areas of agreement.”
As you can see, Senator McConnell is telling us he will not operate like Harry Reid and just block anything Democrats propose. You may or may not believe him – but, regardless, it is indisputable that he is talking about conciliation, cooperation and bipartisanship – for which he did not get one word of recognition from either Lauer or Jansing. That was reserved exclusively for President Obama, the guy who, less than 24 hours after election day, said he will bypass congress on immigration.
Let me end with a really tough one for you: can someone explain to me how, from what you just read, President Obama comes out as nothing but a great compromiser and Republicans come out as nothing but a bunch of take-no-prisoners hardline jerks?
On the other hand, don\’t bother trying. This is the Today Show, on NBC. That answers everything.
