THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s quote comes to us from Brent Bozell, who runs the Media Research Center and newsbusters.org.

This is Mr. Bozell, on Neil Cavuto\’s show, offering his take on why recent polls have shown media to be trusted by so few people – in one recent poll, even less trusted than congress:

“…isn\’t it incredible that their response to being marginalized is to be even more marginalized. They\’ve become so radicalized. We\’ve seen something in the last two years that I frankly hadn\’t seen before: This — since 2008, I should say — this commitment, this deliberate commitment not to report news if it harms the narrative of the left. This is not one example, this is not two examples, I can give you 20 examples. As a matter of fact, you and I have talked about this many times on your show. They are deliberately not reporting news.

They have not gotten to the bottom of a single one of the Obama scandals. They did not get to the bottom of a single one of the Clinton scandals [in the 1990s]. Just think about their coverage of watergate and Nixon where they would not let go until they\’d gotten to the bottom of it. Now look at the IRS, look at Benghazi, look at the VA, look at so many scandals — they\’ve been dropped. This one, this Clinton one, will be dropped as well.

I certainly hope that Brent Bozell is wrong about the current Clinton scandals – the email scandal, the Clinton Foundation scandals (there are several associated with it – where the money came from, who got what for their contributions, what happened to the money, since only a tiny fraction of what was collected found its way into charitable work).  But I cannot say I\’m fully confident, since his characterization of what passes for media today is so accurate.

Want a more recent example than the Clintons in the 1990\’s?  Let\’s look at New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie and New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo:

-When several lanes on the Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge were closed for a few days, the media coverage was massive, and stayed that way for months.  Even after two separate investigations cleared Christie of personal involvement, the coverage of every “new development”, as media put it, continues.

-When Andrew Cuomo summarily shut down The Moreland Commission – which he had created, ostensibly to root out corruption – just as it was getting closer to people in his own administration and to the then-powerful Speaker of the New York State Assemby, Sheldon Silver, and told media it was his commission and he could do with it what he liked (yes, he really said that)?  There was  two-day-and-out coverage.  I have not read a thing about what Cuomo did after that.  No follow-up stories, no investigative reports, no features, no panel discussions, no nothing.

That clear enough for you?

I award Brent Bozell Quote Of The Day honors for telling the simple truth about our media….truth being something those same media seem to have in shorter and shorter supply.
