THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from a source that, when he was running for office I never imagined would be providing much worth thinking about:  Senator John Fetterman (D?-PA).

Senator Fetterman has had it with the Chuck Schumer-orchestrated shut-down of government and the consequences it is causing for so many government workers who rely on their paychecks.  This is what he had to say about it:

“There are no winners here. It’s not getting better every day here. People are going to start to get really hungry and I’ve been fully, fully committed to fund SNAP [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program], open up the government.  (People) need to eat.”

“This is just bad political theater. Open it up.

“Carve it out for that, absolutely.  We ran on that, we ran on killing the filibuster and now we love it. Carve it out so we can move on. I support it because it makes it more difficult to shut the government down in the future and that’s where it’s entirely appropriate.”

“I don’t want to hear any Democrat clutching their pearls about the filibuster. We all ran on it.”

As Isaac Schorr’s article for mediaite.com points out, when the shoe was on the other foot in 2022, almost every Democrat voted in favor of the so-called “nuclear option”; i.e. to end the filibuster rule.  So all we are seeing right now is naked political theater, with Democrats willing to hurt government workers for purely political reasons.

I award John Fetterman Quote Of The Day honors for saying what should be said here, regardless of the fact that, at least as of now, he remains a member of the Democrat Party (that affiliation is more and more tenuous as time goes on).

Who would have thought that a man so apparently debilitated by a stroke would turn things around so completely.
