THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from Speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).  And, although it was spoken in March of this year, this past week’s “impeachmentless impeachment vote” (i.e. a vote to proceed with impeachment, without actually authorizing one) it is fully relevant today.

Here is what Ms. Pelosi said about impeachment at that time:

“I’m not for impeachment. This is news. I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this, impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”

Forgetting her gratuitous insult tacked on at the end, what did Nancy Pelosi say?  She said that she is against impeachment unless there is something sufficiently compelling, overwhelming and bipartisan.

Well, a telephone call between President Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, which both men said was perfectly fine, not threatening, not including any quid pro quo, is neither compelling or overwhelming.

And the vote to proceed was 100% partisan: not one Republican voted in favor.  In fact, the only bipartisan element was that two Democrats voted against.

So why did Pelosi call this vote in the first place?  And if she was going to do so, why did she not call an actual impeachment vote instead of the neither-here-nor-there farce presented to the house?

-Was it because an actual impeachment vote would not not have passed?

-Was it because if it did pass, it would mean that, unlike the secret-testimony, one-side-only farce being conducted by adam schiff, it would be in full view of the public and Republicans would get a chance to defend the President – the last thing that Democrats want?

-Was it both?

I guess we’ll never know.  But what we will know, very soon, is whether/how much this ridiculous move that Ms. Pelosi allowed herself to get suckered into will backfire on her party.

I award Nancy Pelosi Quote Of The Day honors, for giving us the chance to find out.
