THE PARAGRAPH OF THE DAY

Today’s paragraphs come to us from David Niose, writing for the decidedly leftward salon.com.

Mr. Niose, to say the least, is not going to be voting Republican this year.  But look at the first paragraph of his latest commentary, titled “This is one weak nominee:  Hillary Clinton’s problem isn’t Bernie Sanders, it’s Hillary Clinton” and see how candidly he pegs Ms. Clinton as a presidential candidate.

No matter what you think about Hillary Clinton as the presidential primaries wind down, there is one undeniable fact that lingers in the background. Despite having had enormous advantages from the start of the campaign—no serious competition from within the party, solid support from national party leaders, a massive war chest and a nationwide grassroots network built over the course of decades in national politics—Clinton has struggled to put away a 74-year-old Jewish socialist who has had almost no establishment support.

Regular readers of this blog might recognize this point – since I’ve been making it in virtually the same words for months.  Not surprisingly, the fact that – in this characterization if not the rest of the commentary – we are in complete agreement, is a major reason Mr. Niose wins Paragraph Of The Day honors.
And, despite his being a lot more impressed with Hillary Clinton’s credentials than I am, his last paragraph isn’t half bad either:

The fact that…her race for the Democratic nomination continues to be pestered by an old lefty who has served three decades in politics without even registering as a Democrat, should be a grave concern for her and her supporters. Although her credentials are strong, her candidacy isn’t—and blaming that on Sanders would be nothing but a form of denial.

 Yep.
