60 senate votes were needed to prevent a government shut-down.
Yesterday a vote was taken to keep the government funded, exactly as-is, for another 7 weeks – presumably while the two parties tried to hash out their differences.
60 votes were needed to keep it going.
But it failed. The vote was 55 – 45…with all but one Republican voting to keep government going and all but three Democrats voting to shut it down.
This is the first government shut-down since 2018, and the 21st since 1977.
Chuck Schumer is now telling the world the shutdown is entirely Republicans’ fault/that all Democrats were trying to do was protect the American people.
Republicans claim that Democrats rejected their “clean bill” (no changes, just a continuation as-is) and instead insisted on 1.5 trillion dollars in increased spending – much of it, Republicans, say, to benefit illegal aliens.
So now we are in “shutdown” mode.
Who do you think voters will blame?
Consider the above, and think about it.
