Did you know that, during the Kavanaugh hearings, “lawyer” michael avenatti once called Senator Ben Sasse “a one-man moron”?
Well, now avenatti has been convicted of attempted extortion, honest services wire fraud, and transmitting interstate communications with intent to extort (i.e. he tried to get $20 million dollars from Nike, in return for his not going public with what he claimed was evidence that the company engaged in misconduct while trying to recruit college basketball players for its brand)…
…and this is before he is tried on other, unrelated charges in both New York and California.
So what has Senator Sasse got to say about this? Here’s your answer, from a statement he released yesterday:
“Michael Avenatti is a D-list attorney but a Grade-A scumbag,” the statement read. “It’s hard to get airtime from the slammer, so Nike’s win is cable television’s loss. In the end, Michael Avenatti wasn’t a real attorney, he just played one on TV.”
Can we agree that this is not exactly the kind of review avenatti would like on his yelp.com account?
However, since he is facing up to 42 years on the three extortion convictions, plus whatever happens after the other two sets of charges get their turn, I doubt avenatti will be in great demand – other than maybe as an in-house advocate for more recreation time in the prison yard.
In the immortal words of Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, “I’m going to miss that guy”.
