We have lost a great one Riley “B. B.” King, one of the very best blues/jazz guitarists of all time, and a great singer to boot, died last night in Las Vegas, at the age of 89. The immediate cause was complications caused by high blood pressure and diabetes. The son of sharecroppers, Mr. King was born on a Mississippi cotton plantation, and sang gospel before moving to Memphis...
Also from my sister – but on a much more serious issue. No explanation necessary…just a correction, which I\’ll make at the end of this blog. I feel that, to be fair, a correction is in order. While it is true that Israel\’s population is less than 1% of the world…. ….it is more accurate to point out that Israel\’s population (8,059,000 as...
My sister just sent me this – the second person who has done so in the past couple of days. It\’s sarcastic, unfair in a couple of places….but, I think, very funny. See if you agree: Dear Abby, My husband is a liar and a cheat. He has cheated on me from the beginning, and, when I confront him, he denies everything. What\’s worse, everyone knows that he cheats on...
It seems that hardly a day goes by without news of some whining pampered college brats whimpering out a hot steamy pile of obnoxious, immature mung that they have decided has value to someone other than themselves. Think I\’m being a little too harsh? Then try this on for size. Excerpted from an article by the blogger who calls him/herself “Aurelius” at...
How do you feel about the fact that George Stephanopoulos, host of Sunday Morning\’s “This Week” show on ABC, is a partisan politician who has contributed $75,000 (not $50,000 as first reported) to the political piggy bank known as The Clinton Foundation? Are you at all surprised, given that Stephanopoulos was the closest of close confidantes to the Clintons, and has...
Ken Berwitz The hits just keep coming. Iran was supposed to be under severe sanctions until it dismantled its nuclear capabilities. But after the brilliant team of Barack Obama and John Kerry was through, the sanctions were suspended and Iran got to keep its nuclear capabilities. And that is before we get to the fact that Iran\’s Supreme Leader, when not smiling approvingly as throngs...
Did you know that the house passed legislation that would impose a national ban on abortions (with certain exceptions) after the 20th week? Did you know that 42 states already have such bans on abortion? Ten of them are 20 weeks, most are 24. No, that title is not a reference to an excretory function….unless you consider excreting voter good will to be excratory, that is. Here are the latest Gallup data, and previous data back to March of last year: Assuming these data are accurate: -Fourteen months ago Ms. Clnton had a 59% – 37% favorable/unfavorable rating. That\’s +22%. -Now it is 50% – 46%. ...
I watched part of this morning\’s Today Show, during which I caught a segment on Jeb Bush. Here is how that segment was introduced by co-anchor Savannah Guthrie: “Things getting off to a rocky start on the campaign trail for likely Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush. He has repeatedly faced sharp questions in recent days about his support for the Iraq war...
Have you ever had one or more children who attend public schools? Maybe have one or more right now? What would you do to get your children into a school system in which 80% of the teachers – four out of every five – are given the highest possible evaluative rating? Just about anything, right? Well, if I\’m right, there is a way to get that great education. Move...
Not much explanation needed here…. See you tomorrow.
Did you know that President Obama has a summit meeting scheduled tomorrow with 6 Persian Gulf Arab nations? You might not…because the Obama White House is not exactly touting this event, now that 4 of the 6 nations have blown him off. The heads of state of Saudi Arabia the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait were invited. The heads of state of Qatar and Kuwait are...
Apropos of nothing political… When it comes to music that carries and enhances the emotions of a movie, the best I ever heard was Thomas Newman\’s score for “The Shawshank Redemption”. End of blog. ======================================================= UPDATE: Since there is clearly controversy about this, I thought I would put up the American Film...
Excerpted from an article at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser: The Hawaii Health Connector has prepared a contingency plan to shut down operations by Sept. 30 after lawmakers failed to pass legislation to keep the state\’s troubled Obamacare insurance exchange afloat. “Now that it is clear that the state will not provide sufficient support for the Hawaii Health Connector\’s...
