The invaluable drudgereport.com web site currently has a link to Adam Goldman\’s and Ellen Nakashima\’s article for the Washington Post, headlined “CIA and Mossad killed senior Hezbollah figure in car bombing”.
For a fleeting moment, I thought “This couldn\’t have happened without a presidential OK. So maybe President Obama recognizes that Israel must fight against terrorist groups committed to the country\’s obliteration, and he actually supports Israel more than I thought.
But then I read the first two paragraphs of the article…
OnFeb. 12, 2008, Imad Mughniyah, Hezbollah\’s international operationschief, walked on a quiet nighttime street in Damascus after dinner ata nearby restaurant. Not far away, a team of CIA spotters in theSyrian capital was tracking his movements.
AsMughniyah approached a parked SUV, a bomb planted in a spare tire onthe back of the vehicle exploded, sending a burst of shrapnel acrossa tight radius. He was killed instantly.
…and I realized that this event took place before Barack Obama was in office.
It was President George Bush who recognized the threat from Hezbollah and gave that OK. President Obama had nothing to do with it.
False hopes not realized. The status remains quo. Barack Obama\’s reputation as a detriment to Israel defending itself – or worse – remains intact.
How I wish it were otherwise.
