Yes, all New Jersey Beaches and Parks will be open today.
The agreement to allow these openings took place late last night.
Isn’t that great?
Well, no. Because almost no one knows the agreement was reached, it is already July 4th, and just about everyone who had intended to use the beaches or parks has already made other plans.
From Samantha Marcus’s article at the Newark Star-Ledger (and wait until you see Sweeney’s quote):
Gov. Chris Christie‘s administration announced late Monday night state parks and beaches will open in time for the Fourth of July holiday, as a budget impasse draws to a close.
The new order applies to state parks, forests, historic sites, and recreation areas, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
Minutes earlier, the state’s two most powerful Democrats announced they had reached a deal on a bill affecting the state’s largest health insurer, thereby averting an extension of the three-day shutdown of government services into Independence Day.
“Everyone will be able to enjoy their Fourth of July plans,” said Senate President Stephen Sweeney. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience that everyone went through.”
Everyone will be able to enjoy their Fourth of July plans? Brilliant, Mr. Sweeney. The only problem is, since you, and your Democrats cohorts, and Republican Governor Christie had them closed all weekend, those plans cannot possibly include the beaches and parks.
Yeah, some people – among those who can – may now change their plans to use those facilities. Lucky them, they’ll have lots of extra room to move around.
In the military, what happened in New Jersey this weekend would have been characterized – let me try to sanitize this – as a major cluster carnal knowledge. And both sides share plenty of blame for it.
You’ve heard the advertising slogan “Love, it’s what makes a Subaru a Subaru”?
Well, major cluster carnal knowledges are, all too often, what make New Jersey New Jersey.
