In recent times I have written over and over again that, when it comes to hatred and violence, the left takes a back seat to no one.
Well, here – from a research study by nonpartisan YouGov – is some information that just might give you an idea of whether this is a valid point:
Hmmmm. Let’s analyze.
These data tell us that 34% of people who define themselves as liberal feel it is always/usually acceptable to be happy about public figures’ deaths, compared to 7% who define themselves as conserative. The very liberal versus very conservative divide is even more stark: 24% to 3%.
And what about whether political violence is justified? 42% of liberals feel it is, compared to 9% of conservatives. If we’re talking very liberal versus very conservative it is 25% to 3 or 4%.
I grant you these are polling data and can be inaccurate. But even taking possible inaccuracies into account I don’t know how you can avoid concluding there is a major gap here, with the left being far more vindictive and far more prone to violence than the right.
Are you surprised? I’m betting you aren’t. I know I’m not.
