I was in bed last night, watching the New York Yankees play the Baltimore Orioles, while my wife – somewhat more awake than me – was tackling a “wordbrain” game.
It was around the 7th inning when the camera took one of those side-view shots of the batter, where you could see a lot of the crowd.
And during those few seconds, a woman in the stands – apparently aware that she was on-camera – unfolded and held up a shirt which said “Fuck Trump”.
The announcers didn’t say a word about it (I’m not sure what I would have done). And, at least until I fell off to sleep, the control room did not use that camera angle again.
I’m hoping the woman who did this was quickly tossed out of the ballpark and – if there is a chargeable offense involved – will be prosecuted accordingly (though I doubt it).
But what puzzles me is what she thinks she accomplished.
Is there anyone in the country who doesn’t know some people hate Trump and some people use profanity to express that hate?
All this woman managed to accomplish, it seems to me, is to prove she is a low class jerk.
Can she possibly think that holding up the shirt brought even one person to her side?
My experience is that, when something like this happens, the people who agree are either thrilled or embarrassed, the people who don’t agree are uniformly disgusted, and a great many people in the middle are turned off by it.
The only potential change I can find there is negative for her side. But, she certainly got the sign in front of the cameras.

Thanks for your statement here. I too was watching the game and was furious when I saw that. Can you imagine the press coverage if this happened in say 2013 with the poster saying “Fuck Obama”. I hope The Orioles ban her from their stadium for life. Thanks again.
