You knew it was coming.
Kim Foxx, the Chicago State Attorney who has been battered by media for letting jussie smollett off the hook on 16 felony counts, is now claiming this must be racial.
Her exact words:
“I have been asking myself for the last two weeks what is this really about. As someone who has lived in this city, who came up in the projects of this city to serve as the first African American woman in this role, it is disheartening to me … that when we get in these positions somehow the goalposts change.”
Uh…Ms. Foxx. Yes, you are Black. and so is jussie smollett (half-Black, actually). And so is Judge Steven Watkins, who sealed this case so no one can see how it went down. And so is Eddie Johnson, the Superintendent of Police, who reamed you for it.
Since the judge who played ball with you, and the Superintendent of Police who attacked you, are both Black, how does this come out as you being mistreated because you share their skin color?
Maybe, just maybe, the reason you are being attacked is that you let the perpetrator of an obvious hoax, which cost the city tons of money and wasted massive amounts of police time, get away with it. Just as a non-Black State Attorney would be attacked for doing the same thing.
And maybe you should think about the fact that when you use an accusation of racism to explain away your actions, you put a potential asterisk on real instances of racial bias; you cause real victims of racism to have to get past the “is this another smollett/Foxx fix” sneers.
Is that what you want? Do you even care?
Sure the Judge and the Superintendent of Police are black but let’s not forget who is undoubtedly behind this travesty, Barack and Michelle Obama, are also black.
