JOHN KASICH: WHEN COMMON SENSE IS TURNED INTO A MINDLESS ATTACK

Want to see a mindless, imbecilic attack on John Kasich, from the Democratic National Committee?

I thought you’d never ask.

Here it is, via the following excerpt from Ben Gittleson’s article at ABC News:

Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich today told a female college student concerned about “sexual violence, harassment and rape” that she should not “go to parties where there’s a lot of alcohol.”

The first-year student asked Kasich at a town hall in Watertown, New York, what he would “do in office as president to help me feel safer and more secure regarding sexual violence, harassment, and rape?”

Kasich, the governor of Ohio, spoke about empowering victims by ensuring access to confidential reporting and rape kits. “You ought to absolutely know that if something happens to you along the lines of sexual harassment or whatever,” he said.

He continued: “You have a place to go where there is a confidential reporting, where there is an ability for you to access a rape kit, where that is kept confidential, but where it gives you the opportunity to be able to pursue justice, after you have had some time to reflect on it all.”

The student, who said she studied at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, replied, “It’s sad, but it’s something that I have to worry about.”

“Well, I would give you — I’d also give you one bit of advice,” Kasich replied. “Don’t go to parties where there’s a lot of alcohol.”

The audience applauded.

Democrats pounced on Kasich’s response. “Republican presidential candidates like John Kasich and Donald Trump are insulting women everyday [sic] on the campaign trail by blaming victims of sexual and domestic violence,” a spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee, Christina Freundlich, said in a statement.

Can anyone tell me how advising a young woman worried about rape to avoid parties where there is a lot of alcohol, is blaming them for sexual and domestic violence?  Go ahead, I dare you to try.

Remember when your mother told you to be careful crossing the street?  Should she have been attacked for blaming kids who are hit by speeding cars?

If you think advising females to avoid places where they, and/or the guys there, have maximum opportunity to get blitzed and do things they’ll regret afterwards is somehow an attack on them, I suggest you seek out the audience members who applauded and tell them what woman haters they are for agreeing with Governor Kasich’s sentiment.

Wouldn’t you love to know what the DNC’s favorite, Hillary Clinton, would advise this college student?

Do you think it would be something like “Hey, go to the party.  Have a ball.  Remember, you are an adult woman with every right to be with a bunch of guys drinking themselves under the table.  In fact, you have as much of a right to drink yourself under the table as they do.  And if anything happens while you and/or they are in a drunken stupor, just remember:  it’s their fault not yours.  So that makes it okey-dokey”?

Personally, I doubt it.  And I doubt parents of daughters in their first year of college would be offering such advice either.  My guess is they’d be telling their daughters “If you know there’s a lot of alcohol at the party, and you’re worried about what might happen, then do us all a favor – especially yourself – and don’t go to the party.”

On the other hand, in view of her attack on Kasich, I assume DNC spokesperson Christina Freundlich, if she has a college-age daughter, would tell her to go go go.

Maybe an enterprising member of the media would like to ask Ms. Freundlich, or her boss, Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Don’t hold your breath waiting, though.
