At :30, Mr. Mohyeldin tells us that “Here in Gaza it is the Palestinian people that are feeling the brunt of the violence; trapped, with no way out”.
The implication, clearly, is that Israel has Gazans completely trapped, their movements are 100% under Israeli control with Israel disallowing them to go anwhere. Hey, that\’s not a war, that is target practice. Damn those murdering, genocidal Jews.
Except….
Here is a map of Gaza. Please take a look and see if you notice anything interesting on its southern border:
Whoa, what\’s that? Do we see EGYPT? How\’d that get there?
The answer is that Egypt has a southern border with Gaza – and has had that border every day since Israel won Gaza from Egypt in the 1967 war. (Whoa, again: y\’mean Gaza wasn\’t “Palestinian land” stolen by Israel – Palestinian Arabs never had control of it in the first place? In answer: Uh…yep.)
If Egypt cared to, it could open that border at any time, and allow free traffic in and out of Gaza. But it doesn\’t. Therefore, if Gazans are “trapped, with no way out”, the reason is not that Israel is trapping them, it is that Egypt doesn\’t want them across their border any more than Israel does.
And, while we\’re on the subject, would this be a good time to point out that, of the 22 Arab countries on planet Earth, 21 of them do not legally allow Palestinian Arabs to emigrate and become citizens?
In fact, the one and only Arab state which allows Palestinian Arabs to do so – and don\’t be impressed, because it allows only a tiny trickle each year – is Jordan.
Does Jordan allow this minuscule emigration because it is a Palestinian Arab state? I can\’t answer that question. But I certainly can answer anyone who disputes my description (as many Israel haters do, when confronted with this fact).
Jordan was carved 100% out of the land area of Palestine, and is comprised almost completely of Palestinian Arabs. If that doesn\’t make it a Palestinian Arab state, what is it? European? Latin American? Icelandic? See my point?
And if your response is “if you\’re right about that, then Israel is a Palestinian state too”, be assured that I agree with you. Israel is as much a Palestinian state as Jordan is, for exactly the same reason: both were carved out of the land area called Palestine.
See, Palestine is not a country. Palestine was never a country for even one day in the history of the world. Palestine is a land area which, today, encompasses Israel, Jordan, Gaza and Judea/Samaria (also known as the west bank).
Going back to Mr. Mohyeldin\’s report, it should be pointed out that, further on, he reminds us Israel is firing at rocket launching sites, and is warning Palestinian Arabs before the attacks take place (let me say again, as I have in previous blogs, that I know of no other army in the history of the world which tries as hard to warn the enemy\’s civilians where they will be in danger – which gives civilians a chance to leave but also tells the enemy where the next hit is going to occur).
But this does not sit at all well with at least one young woman; an American of Palestinian ancestry among 150 US citizens being evacuated back to the states by the UN. She laments that “In Gaza, we don\’t get warnings, we don\’t get sirens, we don\’t have an “iron dome” (the Israeli defense system which shoots down most rockets) like they do”
If I could speak to this woman, I would answer by saying the following:
“WHY doesn\’t Gaza have a warning system? WHY doesn\’t Gaza have sirens? Israel doesn\’t prevent them from being put in place, so who\’s fault is that?
“And what is your point about Israel having \’iron dome\’? Israel technology created that system (with US financing) as a defense system. If hamas-controlled Gaza spent its time on technology instead of jihad, maybe it would have such a system as well. In fact, if hamas-controlled Gaza did so instead of waging jihad against Israel, maybe Israel, as an ally and trading partner, would have shared the system so Palestinian Arabs would be protected as well.
“In fact, you ought to thank your lucky stars that Israel does have \’iron dome\’. Because if it didn\’t, and the Iran-supplied rockets hamas is firing from Gaza into Israel were able to hit a few heavily civilian targets (which is exactly what it is trying to do), Israel\’s response would be 100 times more devastating than what it is now.
How ironic, therefore, that in a very real sense \’iron dome\’ is protecting Palestinian Arabs in Gaza as much as it is protecting Israeli citizens.
Don\’t expect to see that in any NBC (or CBS or ABC) report any time soon.
