IS LUIGI MANGIONE GOING TO PLEAD GUILTY? (UPDATE)

Is Luigi Mangione, the killer of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson (yes, there is video tape), going to plead guilty to two federal charges of “federal stalking” today – which would carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole…

…which, if he does, could end any state charges against him based on the laws of New York State – thus ending the possibility of a murder conviction.

Does this confuse you?  It sure as you-know-what confuses me.

Now let’s wait to see what happens:  if he actually does plead guilty, what his sentence would be, whether New York State can still try him for murder, etc.

I’ll update this mess after we know more.

One other thing, though:  I wonder what a guilty plea, if that’s what he does, will mean to the morons who have been marching in the streets on his behalf, happy that he murdered Thompson.

UPDATE:  Mangione has pleaded guilty to the federal charges of “federal stalking”.    He said “I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan, and he died”, which is about as clear as it gets.  You can read all about his plea and the possible consequences here.

Now, what does it mean sentence-wise and state charges-wise?  That remains to be seen.

More as it becomes available.
