HURRIED, HARRIED HILLARY?

Interesting.

According to Hunter Walker at businessinsider.com, Hillary Clinton has decided – pretty suddenly, it seems – to announce her candidacy for President this weekend.

Could it have anything to do with the last several polls, most recently the newly-released Quinnipiac poll, which show her tumbling in trial runs versus various Republicans?  And that her favorability rating has dropped from 46% positive/47% negative in February to 41% positive/51% negative now?

Probably.

Let\’s be realistic about Ms. Clinton:  she is a lousy campaigner with major negatives working against her, whose only real claim to the top spot is her “inevitability” factor – i.e. no one has come forward to seriously challenge her…yet.

Assuming the Quinnipiac poll is an accurate reflection of where Ms. Clinton is, other ambitious politicians are likely to reason that, between her lowering poll numbers and the fact that she already has lost one “inevitable” presidential run (2008 vs. Barack Obama), there is a serious opportunity here.

Will it be Martin O\’Malley – former Mayor of Baltimore and Governor of Maryland?  Will it be the Phantom Cherokee, Elizabeth Warren, who trumps Ms. Clinton by being further left than she is (a major plus in today\’s Democrat Party) and eliminates her “it\’s time for a woman” strategy?  Will it be someone else we aren\’t even thinking about now (who knew squat about Mr. Obama on this date eight years ago)?  Some combination thereof?  I don\’t know.

What I do know is that, despite media\’s continuing love affair with her, Hillary Clinton is vulnerable.  Very, very vulnerable.

And if she jumps in, it seems to me that one or more of the possible alternatives can\’t wait too much longer to go after her.  So if there is going to be a competition for the big prize, we\’ll be hearing from them pretty soon.

This could get very interesting, very fast.  Let\’s watch and see how it plays out.
