Here, in 6 lessons, is a course in how President Obama deals with high profile confrontations in which race has become an issue.

Lesson 1:  Mr. Obama\’s comments about Trayvon Martin, who was killed by George Zimmerman after confronting and beating on him (Zimmerman was found innocent on that basis):

“If I had a son he\’d look like Trayvon”

Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago”

Lesson 2:  Mr. Obama\’s comments about Michael Brown, who was killed by Officer Darren Wilson after trying to wrestle his gun away and then apparently charging him (a grand jury determined it was self-defense):

“The death of Michael Brown is heartbreaking, and Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family and his community at this very difficult time. As Attorney General Holder has indicated, the Department of Justice is investigating the situation along with local officials, and they will continue to direct resources to the case as needed.”

Lesson 3:  Mr. Obama\’s comments about a grand jury not indicting Staten Island NY Police Officers (of mixed races) over the death of  Eric Garner, who died hours after resisting arrest and physically being taken down and held by the neck – possibly choked – for 5 – 15 seconds depending on who is watching the video (there was no damage at all to the larynx or windpipe):

“Some of you may have heard there was a decision that came out today by a grand jury not to indict police officers who had interacted with an individual with Eric Garner in New York City, all of which was caught on videotape and speaks to the larger issues that we\’ve been talking about now for the last week, the last month, the last year, and, sadly, for decades, and that is the concern on the part of too many minority communities that law enforcement is not working with them and dealing with them in a fair way.”

Lesson 4:  Mr. Obama\’s comments about Omaha Police Officer Kerrie Orozco, killed in the line of duty, allegedly by a Black man;

Lesson 5:  Mr. Obama\’s comments about New Orleans Police Officer James Bennett Jr., killed in the line of duty, allegedly by a Black man;

Lesson 6: Mr. Obama\’s comments about Hattiesburg, Mississippie Officers Benjamin Deen (White) and Liquori Tate (Black), allegedly murdered by Black men;
