Dear Mr. President.
In the past couple of days I have pointed out that Senator Chuck Schumer, then four House members – Eliot Engel, Steve Israel, Nita Lowey and Ted Deutsch – have announced they cannot support the “deal” you and John Kerry cooked up with Iran. The one you tell us has put the wood to Iran, but its leaders seem to be deliriously happy with.
Well, another Democrat House member has come out in opposition to the “deal”. This time it is Brad Sherman of California…who happens to be the second ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Sherman, like the others, is not buying into your ridiculous premise that the only two alternatives are supporting the “deal”, which caves in to Iran on every major issue, or going to war. Additionally, as Jews, it is likely that part – maybe a large part – of their opposition is because it gives Iran, which is specifically on record as intending to annihilate Israel, the means to do just that.
And they certainly are not buying into your even more ridiculous premise that congresspeople who oppose this “deal” are aligning themselves with the Iranian fanatics who chant “Death to America!” (and “Death to Israel” as well – which you conveniently forgot to mention).
Ironically, there is one benefit to this political rupture that I know you did not intend to have happen.
The hard left already has come down like a ton of bricks on Senator Schumer and undoubtedly will do so against the other five (and whomever follows them). So will your hard left compatriots in the Democrat Party.
As this happens, it may finally bring home to some of the “Lost Tribe” – i.e. the Jews and non-Jews who support Israel but have continued to rationalize supporting you anyway – that, an occasional pious mouthing aside, you and your hard left buddies do not care about whether Israel is put in mortal danger. Looking good politically is more important to you than Israel\’s survival.
And if this should occur, it might cause a number of Lost Tribers to seriously reconsider their political allegiances. Maybe even to realize that the anti-Jewish sentiment in this country, increasingly over the years, has resided in the Democrat Party.
The good news for you is that I doubt it will make many of them Republicans. But the bad news for you is that it stands a very good chance of causing them to think about, and honestly consider, who is with them and against them…rather than reflexively supporting you and your party, no matter how you treat them. This, in turn, could make them either vote Republican or stay home on election day, rather than voting self-destructively.
I certainly hope so.
Have a nice day, sir.
Sincerely
Ken Berwitz
