Have you heard of the New Way Forward Act?
Sponsored by Rep. Jesus Garcia (D-IL), and co-sponsored by Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX), Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) and Rep. Al Green (D-TX) so far, it is the latest, and arguably the single most appalling, legislative proposal regarding illegal aliens that exists.
If you have the patience, and the stomach, you can read its legal mumbo-jumbo wording by clicking here.
But, for the purposes of culling down its insanity to reasonable size, here are some of the particulars, as described by Tucker Carlson during last night’s show on Fox News Channel:
“The bill would entirely remake our immigration system with the explicit purpose of ensuring that criminals are able to move to the United States, and settle here permanently, with impunity.”
“Under the New Way Forward Act, ‘crimes of moral turpitude’ are eliminated entirely as a justification for deportation. And the category of ‘aggravated felony’ gets eliminated too,” meaning “there will no longer be any crime that automatically requires deportation.”
“According to federal data, crimes like car theft, fraud, and weapons offenses all carry average prison sentences of fewer than five years,. And that’s just looking at averages. There are people who commit rape, child abuse, even manslaughter and get sentences of fewer than five years. Lots of them. If the New Way Forward Act passes, immigrants who commit those crimes, and receive those sentences, would remain in the country and, of course, they’ll be eligible for citizenship one day, too.”
Is that what you want? Is that how think our immigration system should work? If so, congratulations. It is an excellent bet that this assault on the safety and well-being of legal citizens will pass through the Democrat-controlled senate.
And, if Democrats should happen to hold the House of Representatives and take over the Senate next year, it’s an excellent bet that it will wind up on the President’s desk for signature or veto.
At least some Democrats seem to believe this is what the country wants…or, at any rate, enough of the country so that they can win elections by supporting it.
Are they right? If things go Reps. Garcia, Escobar, Garcia and Green’s way, you are likely to find out.
That’s something to think about on election day.
