THE IMPEACHMENT FARCE: LYING ABOUT THE RULES

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Nancy Pelosi, it is that, whenever she tells you anything she claims to be a fact, you better double and triple check.

Her claims about this new phase of the impeachment farce is no exception.

Excerpted from Betsy McCaughey’s article in the New York Post:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi insists the impeachment procedures adopted last Thursday are “the fairest possible.” Don’t believe it.

Democrats are boasting about the “impeachment inquiry protections” offered to Trump, claiming they’re the same as the rules devised for President Richard Nixon and President Bill Clinton. But that’s a bald-faced lie.

Section F, quietly devised by Judiciary Committee Chair Jerold Nadler, stipulates that unless the president surrenders executive privilege — a power even the Supreme Court has ruled is vital to his office — he and his lawyers will be denied any ability to call or question witnesses.

House Democrats are behaving like thugs, twisting arms to get what the Constitution does not entitle them to demand.

I hope this is no surprise.  I mean, let’s be honest:  did you really believe Democrats wanted a fair process here?

Reality check: this is an impeachment effort based on a telephone call in which President Trump is supposed to have threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine unless its President, Volodymyr Zelensky, “dug up dirt” on Joe Biden.

Forgetting for a moment that, even if this all were true, not one part of it constitutes an impeachable offense…

…none of it is true.

In point of fact, there was no threat, no quid pro quo mentioned and Trump asked – not threatened, but asked – that Joe Biden’s involvement in a shadier-than-shady deal that made his son rich be investigated.

And, in case you think that’s just my opinion, please remember that President Zelensky himself has categorically stated that he was not pressured, was not threatened, was not faced with any quid pro quo and did not know that aid was being withheld.

In a sane world, that would be game, set, match, with an apology by Pelosi, nadler and schiff for the idiocy of this procedure so far.

But those three, and their media accomplices, are not functioning in a sane world right now.  So it’s full speed ahead.

Heck, it sure beats trying to pass legislation that might benefit the country, right?
