WHY I WON’T MISS, OR MOURN, NIPSEY HUSSLE

“Nipsey Hussle” – real name, Ermias Davidson Asghedom – was killed this weekend in Los Angeles.  He was shot to death near a clothing store he owned.  As I write this, no suspects have named or taken into custody.

Apparently a great many people in the entertainment world – certainly in the “rap” world – are distraught over his death.

Personally, I’m sorry he was shot.  But do I really mourn for a tattoo-laden ‘gangsta-thug” type whose lyrics, if you can call them lyrics are laden with profanity and racism?

Want just one example of many?  Here are partial lyrics from his “song”, titled “Dedication”:

Lovely.  What a wonderful, uplifting message to the young Black people he was singing to/about.

And how nice of mainstream media never to talk about the ugliness of “rap” lyrics from people like this – Hillary-supporting Jay-Z is a major offender as well – even as they lie about Trump calling nazis and White supremacists “very fine people” (read the transcript – he did no such thing).  What a wonderful service they are doing to Black communities by giving people like this a free pass on their messages.

Let me say, again, that I certainly did not wish death on Ashghedom/”Hussle”.   I’m sorry he was shot.

But will I miss him?  Mourn him?  No.

What I miss, and mourn, are media that at least try to talk honestly about people who sell what he was selling, to the vulnerable people he was selling it to.
