WHY WE SHOULD BE RELIEVED TIM KAINE IS NOT A HEARTBEAT FROM THE PRESIDENCY

I am no fan of Mike Pence.  Many of his views – particularly on social issues – are light years away from mine.  If I had my way he would not be a heartbeat from the presidency.

But when compared to the alternative – Tim Kaine – suddenly he doesn’t look so bad.

Here is the absolutely moronic comment Kaine made today, about Donald Trump Jr. meeting with someone from Russia to get dirt on Hillary Clinton:

“To meet with an adversary to try to get information to hijack democracy?  The investigation is now, um, more than just an obstruction of justice investigation.  It’s more than just a perjury investigation. It’s a treason investigation”

Let’s see how many things are wrong with that statement.

-For one, getting information from Russia or anyone else that could be useful in a campaign is not hijacking democracy.  It is getting information that could be useful in a campaign.

When Tim Kaine can explain how that qualifies as hijacking democracy, let me know.  In the famous words of Adlai Stevenson, I am prepared to wait until hell freezes over.

-Next, there is no obstruction of justice or perjury investigation of Donald Trump Jr.  He is Donald Trump’s son, not Donald Trump.

Bringing Donald Trump Jr. into the Mueller investigation is equivalent to accusing Chelsea Clinton of getting oral sex from Monica Lewinsky.

-And finally…TREASON????????????????

Here, according to 18 U.S. Code § 2381, is the actual definition of treason:

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Do you see anything there about getting information you can use in a political campaign?

Did Donald Trump Jr. declare war on the USA?

Is trying to extract information from a Russian giving aid and comfort to the enemy?

For that matter, when did Russia become a declared enemy of the United States?  Can Tim Kaine, or anyone else, show me that paperwork?

Tim Kaine’s words are the whining of an embittered loser who can’t deal with the fact that someone he considers far below he and his running mate won the election.  I accept that and understand why he feels so badly.  If I lost to someone most people (including me for a good period of time) thought of as unelectable, I wouldn’t be dancing in the streets either.

But if Kaine is going to express that bitterness by tossing out accusations of treason, I suggest he should shut up, crawl under a rock, and stay there.  We’d all be that much better off.
