WHY DONALD TRUMP WON’T ATTEND THE WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS’ DINNER

Donald Trump will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ dinner on Saturday.

This is the first time a President has not attended this event since 1980, when Jimmy Carter found something better to do.

And it is not because the people running this affair selected the Trump-hating Comedy Central “comedian” Hasan Minhaj to host it.  Mr. Trump declined to come in February – before Minhaj was selected – in fact, before Trump was even invited (I’m assuming he would have been).

So why did he say no?

Maybe it is because the preponderance of correspondents at this dinner hate his guts.  He knows it.  And they know he knows it.

Maybe it is because, in the absence of knowing who the host was this year, but being aware that in recent years hosts have included Larry Wilmore, Cecily Strong, Joel McHale, Jon Stewart, Seth Meyers and Steven Colbert – all of whom range from Trump detractors to Trump haters – he assumed there would be more of the same this time around.

Maybe it is because if they attack him and his family, he is then expected – with a smile – to attack back in a friendly way, while everyone in the room is supposed to laugh delightedly….i.e. as this show of mutual dishonestly means they’re all, somehow, members of the same club.

Maybe it’s because Donald Trump does not belong to that club.  He doesn’t want to belong to it.  And its members do not want him in it.

There are some of the possible reasons that Donald Trump is not going to be attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday.

If you were President Trump, would you attend?  Think about it.
