What a nice day we had yesterday!!
We drove into Manhattan. The weather was perfect and traffic was no problem, which started us off in a good mood.
Then we found a parking space one block from our son\’s apartment on the West Side, which put us in an even better mood.
He had been out of town the the night before and was not home yet. So we walked up to Lincoln Center and parts north – well over a mile.
Then over to Fifth Avenue and down to Lord & Taylor on 39th Street – probably close to another two miles – so we could take in the sights of midtown and because my wife wanted to look at a few things there.
Then back to Hell\’s Kitchen where, by that time #1 son had arrived (FYI we have two sons…and both of them are #1) and hung out for a while.
Then into Queens to my sister\’s house for the first day of Rosh Hashanah (the beginning of the new year on the Jewish calendar). The weather, which had been perfect, was turning…but not a drop of rain until we got there.
Then, at my sister\’s, we found out that, in addition to the rest of my side of the family my cousin Paul, whom I have not seen in, I\’m guessing, 50 or more years, was in town with his wife, Kathy, and coming over. We had a terrific reunion.
By the time we left, the rain was over and the sky was clear.
Then back to Manhattan to drop off Paul, Kathy and #1 son…and – no doubt because of how late it was – we zipped right over to, then through, the Lincoln Tunnel and had a no-traffic ride home.
Today we head into Brooklyn to see my wife\’s family. If it is anywhere near as enjoyable – which I fully expect it will be, especially because our other #1 son, who saw his wife\’s side of the family yesterday, will be there with our grandchildren – this will be one of the best Rosh Hashanahs of all time.
