On Monday, I noted that “Truth”, the Robert Redford/Kate Blanchett vehicle which tries to convince us that Dan rather and Mary Mapes were victims, rather than rogue journalists who put out fraudulent material in an effort to take down a sitting President, had gone from a mediocre first week to an even less promising second week.
I ended by saying “Based on the gross I\’ve seen over these two weeks, I doubt it will ever go to general release.”
Well it did. And, so far, the numbers show that they should have had the same doubts I did.
On Friday, in 1,122 theaters, (thus over 1,100 in which this was the first day it was available), “Truth” came in at #16.
And in case you think this is only because other movies were in a lot more theaters, the per-theater gross was even worse – it came in at $227, which puts it at #19 in that dimension.
I have yet to see the Saturday numbers and, of course, Sunday is not in yet either. But I\’ll let you know the damage as it it is made public.
But if they are anything like what we\’ve seen so far, this movie is a mega-flop.
And that IS the “Truth”.

UPDATE: boxofficemojo.com, which tracks the grosses of all movies, shows 26 of them for yesterday. 25 of the 26 are reporting their grosses, and just one is not. Guess which one.
Congratulations, you got it. “Truth” is the only movie out there which isn\’t telling us how it\’s doing. Every other one, from hits to disasters is at least reporting, but not “Truth”.
The title of this blog is “Truth\’s Consequences”. I have a feeling that second word has something to do with the information blackout.
