Donald Trump was on conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt\’s show. And Hewitt taught his listeners a great deal about Mr. Trump…by simply asking him a few questions which would indicate whether he had more than a passing familiarity with the international situation.
From Ed Morrissey\’s blog about the interview, we have this:
After a few relatively friendly appearances on the HughHewitt Show, Donald Trump got put through a series of tough foreign-policyquestions in Hugh\’s usual style for candidates. Trump got stumped andcomplained during the interview about dealing with “gotcha” questions, and was not much happier today, either. Trump called Hugh Hewitt a”third-rate radio announcer” in a phoner on Morning Joe,during a surprising answer on the Iran deal.
In other words, Hewitt, by asking perfectly legitimate questions that any presidential hopeful should be knowledgeable about, showed – maybe reminded – his listeners what Trump really is: The worlds richest barroom loudmouth. Someone who will loudly and emphatically pump out the kinds of opinions you might hear from the next bar stool, without knowing the facts necessary to formulate those opinions, and who gets resentful and nasty when he is shown up as being ignorant of them.
Yeah, I know the polls, right now, have Trump well ahead of everyone. That is mostly because, despite there being 17 Republican candidates, with a half dozen or so really serious ones, media continue to give him about 90% of their coverage. So what you are really seeing is primarily a referendum on Trump himself rather than a decision on whether voters would want him as President.
Are you old enough to remember Nat Cole\’s gorgeous rendition of “When I Fall In Love”? specifically these lyrics?
In a restless world like this is,love is ended before it\’s begun, and too many moonlight kissesseem to cool in the warmth of the sun
Media-wise, the moonlight kisses are still in progress for Donald Trump. He\’s getting all the coverage because he\’s generating all the interest…which generates more more coverage, which generates more interest, etc., etc., etc. But, the “warmth of the sun” period is coming. Soon media will tire of its everyday Trumpfest. People will tire of Trump as an interesting curiosity and start listening to what he is saying from the standpoint of whether his torrent of ignorant comments, his contradictions from previous comments on so many different things, his overt nastiness, and his supersedingly enormous ego, are what they want in the oval office. Then the fun will be over.
I know it doesn\’t seem like that can happen right now. Not when every poll shows him with higher numbers than the other Republicans. But keep watching. Serious-time is just around the corner.
