I just got a call from what my caller ID said was an Omaha exchange. The number was (402) 509-5055.
When I answered, I got a woman\’s voice asking me something in a garbled, barely intelligible voice.
I asked her to repeat, and got more of the same.
I asked her to talk more slowly, and she asked me what the address and phone number of my business is. No name of any organization, no explanation, no nothing.
I asked who she was, and she told me this was the Chamber of Commerce updating its records.
I said “What Chamber of Commerce, you\’re calling from an Omaha exch….” and the phone immediately hung up.
I tried calling back to see who/what this was, and got a recorded message telling me the phone number is not in service (my guess is that the number on my caller ID changes every time she and her accomplices make a call).
Any doubt that this was an effort to troll for information that could be used for identity theft?
Thieving bastards.
