I am watching live coverage of a protests against ICE in Minneapolis’ neighboring city, St. Paul, on CNN.
The protesters are blocking entrances to prevent ICE agents from leaving. They are screaming insults at agents. They are making it harder and harder for the agents not to physically move them. And while there are local police there, CNN is acknowledging that they are backed off/avoiding involvement in the situation.
And while this is happening, CNN interviewed the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota Peggy Flanagan. She attacked; not the protesters who are doing whatever they can to exacerbate an already dangerous situation, but the ICE agents. While mouthing general platitudes about non-violent protest, she demanded that ICE leave the city.
It is hard not to conclude that Flanagan – and Governor walz who, at the moment, is (mercifully) silent – are rooting for this incident to escalate…so they can claim ICE agents, rather than the protesters, are the problem.
It gets sicker by the second.
