Did you ever see The Godfather II – which, in terms of movie greatness, was at least the equal of – maybe superior to – The Godfather?
The following dialogue, between Michael Corleone and mobster Hyman Roth while they were discussing their business ventures in pre-Castro Cuba, occurred during that movie:
- Michael Corleone: I saw a strange thing today. Some rebels were being arrested. One of them pulled the pin on a grenade. He took himself and the captain of the command with him. Now, soldiers are paid to fight; the rebels aren’t.
- Hyman Roth: What does that tell you?
- Michael Corleone: They could win.
As the protests continue, and grow, in Iran – even as dozens of civilian protesters are killed by “leader” khamenei’s armed forces – that dialogue keeps coming to mind.
It really could happen. Let’s hope, for the people of Iran and for the rest of the world, that it does.
