“Second verse, same as the first”: from “I\’m Henry VIII, I Am”
Herman\’s Hermits had a big hit with that song in 1965. Who knew that now, almost 50 years later, that lyric would describe the public\’s reaction to voter ID laws.
I have written several blogs noting that, last year, the Washington Post conducted a national survey asking whether there should be a voter ID requirement….and 74% of the country, including a majority of Black voters (whose votes would supposedly be surpressed by such a requirement if you believe the Democrat opposition) favored them. Click here and see for yourself.
Well, there is another major poll on the subject – this one from Fox News.
And guess what: after a year of Democrats desperately fighting the voter ID requirement – politically, in the courts, and through eric holder\’s thoroughly politicized/racialized Department of Justice – the results are close to being the same as they were last year. 70% favor voter ID laws, including a majority of Black respondents (though, after relentlessly being told they are racist in nature, Black support has dropped from a large majority to a small one).
In other words, even after an intense effort to convince the public that there is no reason for voters to demonstrate they are who they say they are – something they must do to fly in an airplane, get a library card, get into many office buildings (including the offices of just about every mainstream media venue which supports the Democrat position)…
…..common sense still prevails.
Let\’s hope it stays that way.
