This is the UN. The Useless Neutered UN. Why, therefore would you expect anything more?
Excerpted from Elad Benari\’s article at israelnationalnews.com – and please pay special attention to the parts I have put in bold print – most particularly the remarkable quote I have also underlined:
WilliamSchabas, the Canadian professor who was appointed by the UnitedNations Human Rights Council to head a commission of inquiry intoIsrael\’s military operations in Gaza, on Wednesday insisted that heis not anti-Israel, despite the many remarks he has made in the pastproving the contrary.
Speakingto the Arab-language newspaper Asharqal-Awsat,Schabas claimed that “even if Spiderman was heading the probe, theywould\’ve attacked him.”
“Ido not hate Israel,” he declared, but also said, “I will put myprior positions aside.”
“Thisis an investigation that is necessary,” Schabas said. “I will notresign.”
Avideo from a 2013 panel recently surfaced, in whichSchabas clearly revealed his eagerness to prosecute Israel overits actions in Gaza, even if that involved “twistingthings and manoeuvring” in the international legal arena.
Asecond video exposed later shows Schabas saying, “Frankly,if I had to think of an individual who would be the greatest threatfor the survival of Israel, I\’\’ probably choose Netanyahu.”
Inan interview with Channel2 Newsfollowing his appointment, the Canadian law professor didnot deny that the international community has a doublestandard regarding Israel\’s conduct of war.
Inthat same interview, Schabas refused to define Hamas as a terroristorganization, saying he would need to consult with the two othermembers of the UNHRC committee before stating an opinion to avoid any”predispositions” in judgement.
ForeignMinister Avigdor Liberman hascalled on Israel not to cooperate with the UN\’s probe.Finance Minister Yair Lapid called the UNHRC committee “aridiculous committee of ridiculous commissionership, thatinstead of investigating the murder of millions of Muslims by otherMuslims, investigates the most moral army on the planet; this is adisgrace for the UN.”
To review: schabas thoroughly disrespects Israel\’s head of state, can\’t bring himself to call hamas (whose charter specifies that Israel must be obliterated and all Jews everywhere must die) as a terrorist entity, and has to “put my prior positions aside” to even pretend to be a neutral arbiter – as if that would convince anyone with a brain.
This, folks, is the guy who the UN Human Rights Commission – which includes such paradigms of human rights as China, The Congo, Kuwait, Cuba, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia (among others) – has picked to investigate Israel?
That is roughly the equivalent of picking mullah omar to investigate human rights violations of the taliban.
Foreign Minister Liberman is, of course, 100% correct – not that it will matter to the UN, which ignores genocides around the world to fixate on anything and everything Israel says or does.
Illustratively, more people have been killed in Israel\’s “neighbor” Syria during the last two years, than have been killed in all the wars between Israel and every hostile neighbor combined, since Israel came into existence in 1948.
