It was bad enough that Donald Trump has spent a month in New York City, on trial for a misdemeanor that the statute of limitations expired on that a politicized DA decided to contort into a federal crime (which, as a state official he has no business bringing to trial.
It was bad enough that the judge, a Biden donor whose daughter is a left wing anti-Trump activist making a ton of money off this trial, did not recuse himself.
It was bad enough that the judge allowed “stormy daniels” (stephanie clifford, actually) to go beyond the discussion of payments (her one and only relevant issue) to an extended blow-by-blow (that’s probably literal) description of the sexual activity she claims – with no proof, of course – to have taken place between her and Trump.
It was bad enough that there was extensive testimony from michael cohen – a convicted perjurer, who freely admitted that he was a serial liar…but assured us that now he was telling the truth.
But yesterday, when Trump’s legal team finally got a chance to put Robert Costello, a former confidant of cohen, on the stand to testify that cohen was lying about the payments made to daniels/clifford, the judge did everything in his power to prevent that testimony from being heard. Objection after objection was sustained. And when Costello, himself an accomplished lawyer/former prosecutor, reacted exasperatingly to the shut-down, he was attacked by the judge.
This is a kangaroo court. Period. It is a farcical joke, being run (orchestrated is more like it) by a judge who intends to get a conviction by any means necessary (isn’t that what the prosecution is supposed to do?) on behalf of a DA, alvin bragg, who literally won election by promising to go after Trump. And even if the jury (drawn from a venue that almost monolithically votes Democrat) mangles facts and reality to come back with a conviction, there is virtually no doubt it will be overturned – with disgust, I hope – by the appellate court.
But it did get Trump off the campaign trail for over a month, didn’t it? So mission accomplished.
Too bad for this bunch of compromised losers that, instead of taking Trump down it made him a martyr…and instead of his poll numbers falling through a trap door, they went up.
Karma really is a bitch.
