Today’s quote – and it is a doozy – comes to us from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and concerns Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) who has been accused by an increasing number of women – many of whom worked for him – of, among other things demanding sex, forcing them to babysit his children, and parading around in his underwear (or less) in front of them.
Says Ms. Pelosi:
“We are strengthened by due process. Just because someone is accused — and was it one accusation? Is it two?
“John Conyers is an icon in our country. He has done a great deal to protect women – Violence Against Women Act, which the left — right-wing — is now quoting me as praising him for his work on that, and he did great work on thaat. But the fact is, as John reviews his case, which he knows, which I don’t, I believe he will do the right thing.”
“I do not know who (the accusers) are. Do you? They have not really come forward.”
That so, Ms. Pelosi?
Here, from an article at buzzfeed.com – hardly what you’d call a Republican-oriented venue – is a more realistic appraisal:
Michigan Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat and the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives, settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 with a former employee who alleged she was fired because she would not “succumb to [his] sexual advances.”
Documents from the complaint obtained by BuzzFeed News include four signed affidavits, three of which are notarized, from former staff members who allege that Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Judiciary Committee, repeatedly made sexual advances to female staff that included requests for sex acts, contacting and transporting other women with whom they believed Conyers was having affairs, caressing their hands sexually, and rubbing their legs and backs in public. Four people involved with the case verified the documents are authentic.
Does that look like one or two to you? Does four signed affidavits sound like no one came forward? Does paying a settlement for sexual harassment sound like maybe it happened and maybe it didn’t?
And then, as just a slight contrast, we have the same Nancy Pelosi, while being interviewed by Meet The Press’s Chuck Todd, talking about the difference between Bill Clinton and Roy Moore:
REP. NANCY PELOSI:
“…we’re talking about a child molester. This is…We’re talking about a child molester.”
Well, well, well.
A troubled woman with a transcendentally dissolute personal life accuses Roy Moore – almost 40 years after the fact – of touchy-feely behavior (no intercourse, no demands for intercourse, no undressing) and, according to Nancy Pelosi, the issue is over, he’s a child molester. But women who worked for John Conyers – HIS OWN PEOPLE – swear out virtually contemporaneous affidavits about him demanding sex from them, including one whom he was forced to pay off for this reason, and Pelosi’s reaction is, hey, what about due process?
I award Nancy Pelosi Quote Of The Day “honors” for proving, again (as she has so often in the past) that you would be hard pressed to find a phonier, more hypocritical joke in the United States Congress than she is…unless you happen to be in the company of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, in which case there is some serious competition.

speaking of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, what’s up with Awan???
