Today’s quote comes from 16 term – and, I’m betting, soon to announce his “retirement” – house member Joe Barton (R-TX).
Here is what Mr. Barton has to say about the pictures of him, frontally nude, he sent to at least one woman and which have now – surprise, surprise – surfaced on the internet:
“While separated from my second wife, prior to the divorce, I had sexual relationships with other mature adult women,” he said. “Each was consensual. Those relationships have ended. I am sorry I did not use better judgment during those days. I am sorry that I let my constituents down.”…
“You’re as aware of what was posted as I am. I am talking to a number of people, all of whom I have faith in and am deciding how to respond, quite frankly.”
I award Joe Barton Quote Of The Day “honors” for seeking out advice on how to respond to the reaction these pictures have generated.
-First, tell your constituents that, regardless of whether the recipient of your pictures was willing or unwilling, it was astonishingly stupid to put them out there. And, if she was unwilling, you also acted like a disgusting, reprehensible pig.
-Next, announce your retirement – preferably now, but at the very least at the end of your current term (which is over in less than a year).
-Then, disappear. To sighs of relief and prolonged applause.
Happy Thanksgiving, Joe.
