THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s quote comes to us from Chris Matthews, the once, and (suddenly there is a slight possibility here) future worthwhile political analyst who, in recent years has morphed into an ultra-left drone on (where else?) MSNBC.

Last week, Matthews surprised me (and I would suspect a great many others) by emphatically speaking out against the term “swift-boating” being used – by just about everyone else on MSNBC – to describe the attacks on bowe bergdahl.  Matthews pointed out that the things being said about bowe bergdahl – i.e. that he was a deserter – appear to be true.

And now we have Matthews speaking about David Brat, the Republican who upended Eric Cantor:

“Iwas listening to [David] Brat last night, and today. I hink he\’s verysophisticated for a politician. He\’s certainly up to the ranks ofmost politicians I\’ve ever dealt with. He speaks in a speculativemanner and an intellectual manner. He can handle any debate on thisprogram or my program. This looking down our noses at tea partypeople has got to stop. They have a message, they\’re as American asany liberal is, and they\’re really angry about the failure of thesystem.”

This is from Chris Matthews?  Who would have expected it?  Certainly not me.

Why  Because what Mr. Matthews said is not just a statement of fact, it is an admission.  Based on what he has said in the past, Matthews literally could have been talking to himself.

In the great musical “My Fair Lady”, Henry Higgins sings (more exactly, talks) the song “I\’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face” – in which he professes his love for Eliza Doolittle without ever saying the word and maybe not even realizing he is experiencing that emotion.  I wonder if Chris Matthews realizes that, by making the above statement, he is playing the same part.

I award Chris Matthews Quote Of The Day honors for his realization…and maybe his broader epiphany regarding the fact that there are important, worthwhile voices across all parts of the political spectrum.

And the reasons he has won just might be something worth talking about the next time he and his fellow MSNBCers are in the same place at the same time.
