THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer –  a very unlikely source, given what he said.

During an interview with the Washington Post on Saturday,  the discussion turned to last year’s election disaster for his party.  Schumer’s one-sentence analysis was:

“When you lose to somebody who has 40 percent popularity, you don’t blame other things – Comey, Russia – you blame yourself.”

Call it a weak moment.  Call it a brain fart.  Call it a pang of desire to say something honest.  But there it is.

Chuck Schumer wins Quote Of The Day honors for stating the obvious truth about Hillary Clinton’s election campaign – the truth that Democrats and their accomplice media are almost always averse to stating.

I wonder how long it will take him to walk it back in some way – maybe with a clumsy “what I really means was” routine, along the lines of what Jesse Jackson went through in 1993, after saying, in a similar moment of candor, that, “There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery — then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.”

It took Jackson just a day or two.  I doubt it will take Schumer much more.
