Today\’s quote comes to us from a lady I doubt any reader has ever heard of – at least not until today.
Her name is Terri Durheim. She lives in Enid, Oklahoma. And according to Tami Luhby\’s article for CNN, she has a son with a serious heart condition.
Ms. Durheim believes in ObamaCare. She signed up for it…and paid extra money to have the “silver” plan instead of “bronze”.
But only now, after doing so, and locking in her insurance for a year, Ms. Durheim has become aware that her son\’s doctor is not on the plan. The nearest pediatric cardiologist who accepts ObamaCare is in Oklahoma City, over an hour away.
And when she, personally, needed a CAT scan, the nearest facility was even further away – a 90 minute drive.
See, in order to keep costs down (or, at any rate, create the illusion of doing so), ObamaCare “narrowed the networks of doctors and hospitals, often excluding the priciest and most specialized providers.” – a fact that the Durheim family can most assuredly, and most ruefully, vouch for.
So where does “Quote Of The Day” come in?
Here is what Terri Durheim has to say about the major problems she did not foresee with her ObamaCare coverage – specifically what it would mean if there were a medical emergency:
…”obviously we\’d have to pay out of pocket and go here in town, but that defeats the purpose of insurance. I\’m truly grateful we haveinsurance. It\’s reasonable and affordable, but it\’s not doing me alot of good”
I am sure Terri Durheim is a very nice lady and I have no doubt that she is very concerned about her son and the rest of her family. I will not say a bad word about her.
But I feel compelled to award her Quote Of The Day “honors”, for being so bamboozled by the difference between what ObamaCare promised (e.g. “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor”) and what she is actually getting, that she can, in one short sentence, both praise it for being “reasonable and affordable” and acknowledge that the reasonable and affordable coverage she refers to is “not doing me a lot of good”.
It is exactly this kind of person – well meaning, trusting, and seemingly unable to comprehend how completely she has been taken to the cleaners – that seems to be the natural prey of Obama & Co. And do they ever prey on them.
My heart goes out to Terri Durheim. And my anger continues to grow for the lying hucksters who took such advantage of her.
