THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Ken  Berwitz

Today\’s quote – actually it was made on October 26th – comes to us from that noted Swami, Senator Chuck Schumer.

Here is what he told a no-doubt appreciative Chuck Todd on that morning\’s Meet The Press show:

“Well,I think we will hold the Senate. You know, I know all the pundits aresaying Republicans will take the Senate.

Democrats are going to provethe pundits wrong on Election Day when we keep the Senate, threereasons.

First and foremost, economic issues predominate. Ebola\’s inthe news, ISIS is in the news, but the average voter, every pollshows far and away, cares most about economic issues. They tend to befor Democrats when economic issues like minimum wage, like equal payfor women, like not sending jobs overseas predominate.

Second, wehave a much better ground game. You can add two to three points at aminimum…for each of those races. Just about every one of thoseraces. So if it\’s 44, 43 [percentage points], we\’re probably ahead.

And third, as the race get down to the final moments, the votersfocus on the two candidates. Not on the national referendum. When thetwo candidates are compared almost inevitably, we do better. Soeconomic issues, better ground game, better candidates will put usover the top November.\’

Now that is a mouthful.  Of what, I\’m not entirely sure, but it is a mouthful nonetheless.

Look, the fact that Schumer predicted Democrats would do well on election day is no big deal.  It is pretty much de rigueur for any politician on either side of the aisle.

But Mr. Schumer went into such fine detail in explaining the demise of Republicans, and proving it beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with geometric logic (tip of the hat to Captain Queeg here), that he wins Quote Of The Day honors just for the comedic value of being so completely wrong on so many levels.

Way to go Chuck.  And enjoy living on the minority side of the aisle for at least the next two years.

The humbling nature of being there should serve you well.
