Today\’s quote comes to us from former Governor of Arkansas, cable show host, and current Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
This is what Huckabee had to say to George Stephanopoulos, on yesterday morning\’s This Week show, about the Kim Davis jailing:
“You\’ve got Democrats who ignored the law when it was the law to have traditional marriage, Gavin Newsom in San Francisco as Mayor, performed same-sex weddings even though it was illegal. Did he ever get put in jail? He most certainly did not. You had Barack Obama and Eric Holder when he was Attorney General, they ignored the rulings of DOMA (the Defense Of Marriage Act). Did they get put in jail for ignoring the law? They most certainly did not. So when is it that liberals get to choose which laws they support but a county clerk in Kentucky who, acting on her Christian faith, is criminalized, jailed without bail because she acted on her conscience and according to the only law in front of her?”
As readers of this blog know, I strongly oppose Mike Huckabee\’s belief that religious beliefs should be used to supersede the law regarding gay marriage. Elected officials are sworn to uphold the law, even if they don\’t like it.
But, in this construct, he is 100% correct. Under the Obama administration (and, though it has pushed the envelope dramatically further than any other presidency in my life, it is not the only one), Mr. Obama and his people seem to think they can pick and choose which laws to obey. They cannot. And the fact that they suffer no consequences, and are mostly heralded for their actions by what passes for mainstream media today, while a nondescript county clerk in Kentucky gets hauled off to jail without a peep of protest from those same media venues, tells you all you need to know about the Obama administration, and its fawning, partisan, anything-but-journalistic acolytes.
I award Mike Huckabee Quote Of The Day for so clearly bringing this to the attention of George Stephanopoulos – who will give it, I suspect, about one half a nanosecond\’s thought – and the rest of us, some of whom might actually consider the logic of his words.
