Today\’s quote comes to us from Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA). More on him further on, but first his quote, which is about the presidential candidacy of Republican Ben Carson:
“[He] is a very smart, well-educated man and knows exactly what he\’s doing, when we have Blacks like that trying to tap into the ignorance of people who have been whipped into a frenzy, like a lynch mob, and you go to try to garner support from those folks, I think it\’s very disappointing that we would have that kind of political discourse going on in this country.”
First off, let\’s think (if thinking is the correct reaction) about this quote. Can you tell me what Johnson is saying? Who he is saying it about? This is about as clear as a mud puddle on asphalt pavement at midnight.
But, then again, why should we expect anything clearer from Hank Johnson? This is the man who, on March 25th, 2010, actually – no joke, folks – questioned sending too many military personnel and their families to Guam, because the island might capsize. His exact words:
“My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize”
And in case you think I\’m misquoting, or that he said it as a sarcastic joke (which his horrified staff and a couple of leftward venues which pose as “fact checkers” tried to pawn off), here is the video:
Now: why would anyone expect an intelligent comment about anything from this man?
Incidentally, the reason I put up that date is to show you that, after making this comment (and, believe me, it wasn\’t the only embarrassing thing Johnson has said, not by a long shot), we have gone through the 2010, 2012 and 2014 elections. In other words, the presumably not ignorant people of Georgia\’s distict re-elected Johnson three times after he said this.
But then again, these are the same voters who elected and re-elected the hardline racist and anti-Semite cynthia mckinney to congress. So I guess I shouldn\’t be surprised.
I award Hank Johnson Quote Of The Day honors for showing us that, even though five years have passed since his Guam-capsize comment, he has fully retained the, er, thinking process which spawned it.
