THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s quote comes to us from Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT), a presidential candidate who has rapidly become Hillary Clinton\’s achilles heel.

Here is what he told a crowd of 7,500 in Maine (can Ms. Clinton draw that many people in Maine?  Don\’t bet your pants suit on it):

“When you talk about the economy we also have to have an honest assessment of unemployment in America.  Once a month the government publishes a set of figures, and the last figures they published said that official unemployment was 5.4 percent.  But there is another set of government statistics, and that that real unemployment if you include those people who have given up looking for work and the millions of others who are working part-time 20, 25 hours a week when they want to work full-time, when you all of that together, real unemployment is 10.5 percent.”

Ok, Senator Sanders slightly misstated current unemployment, which is at 5.3%.  And the 10.5% is unprovable, it is just an estimate.

But the point that Mr. Sanders is making rings 100% true.

With the job participation rate at a 38 year low, and most newly created jobs being part time rather than full time, the true employment picture is terrible.  Now, add in a factor Mr. Sanders did not discuss – the number of jobs being taken, very often at lowest of low wages – by illegals whom President Obama is allowing to stream over the border and into our country, and the employment picture goes from terrible to horrific.

Bernie Sanders is the longest of long shots to become the Democrat Party\’s presidential nominee.  And I would not vote for him if he did, because his politics are way, way to the left and mostly do not make sense to me.

But, as I have said in the past, I admire Mr. Sanders for his honesty and his consistency.  He says what he thinks and thinks what he says.  He does not change or mitigate what he says based on the latest political winds.  His level of personal integrity, and the sharp contrast it creates versus Hillary Clinton – who has little or none – is why Bernie Sanders wins Quote Of The Day honors.
